You don't have to come in a spaceship from outer space to be branded as an alien. Just go to a bank in a foreign land and try to avail a foreigner loan. The experience would have been much better if it had been the former!
Most of the immigrants around the world today face difficulties in getting financial aid from the foreign institutions. Banks and other money lending institutions are not comfortable in giving away loans to people who have crossed the border. This is because they aren't prepared to take the risk of lending money to people who don't reside in their native land. The borrower may avail the loan and turn his back on them by returning to his homeland. The lenders will find it difficult to track down the offender and all such complications start rolling. It is simply a matter of trust. We lend money to our friends with the trust that we will get it back. And we are sure we will get it back because we know the person. The same applies the other way around.
So how do we instil trust in people whom we don't know? The trend varies from one country to another. Some nations are very strict about giving loans only to their citizens. Others are fine with borrowers if they have any assets to show in that foreign land. For example let us consider UK. It is not enough that you are working for a company based in UK. The person applying for the loan will have to be a legal citizen in UK who has been paying his taxes regularly for a minimum period of one and half years. It is also necessary that he has a good credit history to show. Similarly each country has its own stipulations and procedures. They will avoid extending their hand to foreigners if they can get away with it.
The most sensible and easier option would be to get some native to apply for the loan on your behalf. But getting a co-signer, as they are technically called, is another task. Friends in foreign countries will always be a handful. They can get through all the formalities just like that. Any problem in your repayment schedule will be dealt with your friend's assets by the bank. How convenient I should say! The rest of the story would depend on how much of a friend you are to that person!
Nowadays there are other easier methods to get financial support in foreign lands. There are a long line of private money lenders or institutions that are glad to guarantee you a foreigner loan based on your credit records, personal income and account balance. The security you can provide is by accepting to make a down payment. You can get approved for a loan via online lenders. Just send them your info and they will reply positively if they are satisfied with your credit scores and other details. But the borrower should be careful in selecting the lender. Make sure he is an authentic lender. There are enough fake lenders out there who can make life difficult for you.
So remember there are people who may treat you as aliens, but that is not the end of the story. You have to make an effort in the right direction so that you earn their trust and get your hands on the money that you require.
