In this day and age, the market for mobile phones and mobile phone contracts is so competitive that many providers do everything they can to sweeten the deal for their prospective customers. This is an approach that tends to pay dividends; because switching a contract provider can be a lot of hassle, mobile phone providers know that the most difficult step for them is to get you to sign a contract in the first place. Once a given user is on a network, there is a high likelihood that they will stay with that network for multiple contract durations and thus earn that company a large revenue over time.

As a result of this pressure to get customers to sign on the dotted line, many providers offer desirable freebies to go along with their more expensive contract deals. These freebies can be almost anything: from a set of hair straighteners to an iPod Shuffle or even a brand new 22 inch TV. As you might expect, these freebies usually get better the more you are prepared to pay for your contract, although this is not always the case. Mobile phone free ipad deals are amongst the more popular offerings at present, but users must pay careful attention to other contract conditions or risk being burned.

Whilst these deals sound excellent on paper, it is important to be careful when choosing a contract deal on the basis of a bundled freebie. Many networks view these freebies as an alternative incentive to get you to sign for their most expensive contract deals. In other words, they are often a way to get users who might otherwise be happy with a cheap contract that comes with a second-rate handset to sign for a more expensive deal.

This means that in many cases, the choice faced by a consumer is either to get a genuinely cheap contract that might come with a reasonable amount of talk time, text messages and even data transfer allowance to be used with a cheaper handset - or to buy a more expensive contract that might offer a poor amount of talk time, text messages and data but a better handset or valuable freebie to make the deal more appealing.

Ultimately it is important to think about your priorities before you sign any mobile phone contract. Think about mobile phone freebies as an alternative form of monthly payment for your expensive high-tech goodie. If you are paying less for the freebie over the contract duration than you otherwise would then by all means go ahead and sign. If on the other hand you are paying more for a shoddy mobile service and a freebie that you could get cheaper by paying for it in one lump sum, you should think carefully before subscribing to that deal.
