German fashion house Hugo Boss was founded in 1924 and currently specializes in high-end men's and women's styles. The company was started in the small town of Metzingen, south of Stuttgart.

The early beginnings of the Hugo Boss brand are somewhat dark and it's a wonder that the company survived following World War II. Hugo Boss himself, the founder of the brand, was a member of the Nazi party and boasted of supplying uniforms to the Nazi army, Hitler Youth and a number of other affiliated parties. In 1946, according to the requirements of a denazification judgment, Hugo Boss was stripped of his right to vote or to own a company and was required to pay a large fine. The business, however, continued on after his death in 1948.

Today, in order to make up for the mistakes of the past, Hugo Boss contributes to a fund, which compensates slave laborers who worked for the Germans during the war. The fund totals about $5.1 billion.

Today's Hugo Boss is a vastly different company and the brand has moved past its rather repugnant beginnings. The company has more than 360 retail outlets and over 1,000 franchises. Several lines are available under the core brands, HUGO and BOSS.

Boss Black: The most widely distributed line, featuring classic styles in menswear and womenswear, in a broad product range.

Boss Orange: Introduced in 2010 with denim as its base, this line features quirky and unique casualwear.

Boss Selection: This line has a strong focus on English tailoring and style and caters to a mature clientele.

Boss Green: Originally known as Boss Sport, the line was reintroduced in 2003. The primary focus is sportswear, mainly with a golf theme.

Hugo: The trendiest line, Hugo features European styling.

In addition to the several clothing lines, Hugo Boss also produces a variety of other products, including children's clothing, fragrance, skincare, watches, eyewear and even cellphones.

Hugo Boss has a wide line of fragrances, for both men and women. Some of the most well-known scents in the men's line include Boss Element, Boss in Motion and Boss Sport. The women's collection features such popular fragrances as Deep Red, Pure Purple and Boss Woman.

Other fragrances in the collection include Boss Number One, a men's fragrance that is sharp and sporty, featuring a strong aromatic profile with a sweet and musky base. Boss Intense, for women, is warm and sensual, strong and feminine. It has a spicy and sweet touch, with hints of vanilla, sandalwood and musk. Essence de Femme is intense and long lasting, with a fruity beginning and an oriental finish. Hugo Dark Blue, for men, is spicy and masculine, with citrus and ginger top notes, and a woodsy finish, featuring mahogany and cypress, as well as patchouli and cedar.
